MediaTek has discreetly unveiled its latest innovation, the Helio G91 chipset, as an evolutionary leap from its predecessor, the Helio G88, introduced three years back. This new system-on-chip (SoC) is designed to enhance the performance and features of smartphones. It introduces support for 90Hz FHD+ displays. Significantly improves camera capabilities allowing for up to 108MP primary cameras, a notable upgrade from its predecessor’s 64MP limit.
The All New MediaTek Helio G91
The Helio G91’s octa-core CPU architecture features two Arm Cortex A75 cores running at speeds of up to 2.0GHz for demanding tasks along with six Cortex A55 cores operating at 1.8GHz for energy efficiency. Similar to the G88 this setup strikes a balance between power and performance while its ARM Mali G52 MC2 GPU running at 1.0 GHz ensures processing. With support for up to 8GB LPDDR4x memory and eMMC 5.1 storage, the SoC aims to provide a user experience.
One of the standout features of the Helio G91 is its camera capabilities. Users can enjoy more detailed images in lighting conditions with support for 108MP sensors. The inclusion of in-sensor zoom functionality and 2.0um pixel binning aims to enhance low-light performance and deliver portrait shots with clarity.
In addition, MediaTek has included a range of hardware enhancements to improve photography functions like creating a blurred background, with dual cameras stabilizing images electronically and reducing distortion caused by rolling shutters.
To make it more attractive to gamers the G91 incorporates MediaTeks HyperEngine gaming technologies, designed with attention to detail to enhance performance in terms of CPU, GPU, and memory usage based on factors such as power usage, heat management, and gaming behavior. This helps maintain performance and a smooth gameplay experience for gamers. Additionally, the chipset facilitates dual 4G VoLTE connectivity and Wi-Fi 5 support for seamless connectivity experiences.
In terms of auxiliary functionalities, the G91 boasts an inertial navigation engine catering to precise location tracking in GPS-deprived environments, alongside voice wakeup functionality for hands-free device control, elevating both safety and user convenience to new heights.
