MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC Unveiled: 35% Faster Performance and Advanced AI Features

MediaTek on Wednesday officially announced the Dimensity 9400 SoC as its new flagship smartphone processor. While the company announced early this season that it would launch in October and shared the basics, the new specs and capabilities have just been unveiled. Mediatek says this is the fastest boost among all features of Dimensity 9400 over Dimensity 9300 at up to 35% single-core performance and rivals Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets, as well as Apple’s A18 chipset.

The All New MediaTek Dimensity 9400

Mediatek Dimensity 9400A is a flagship chipset targeting fourth-generation, Arm v9. 2 CPU architecture, as well as dedicated GPU and neural processing unit (NPU) architectures. It is built using TSMC’s second-generation 3nm fabrication process. This CPU consists of a single Cortex-X925 core with a clock speed of up to 3.62GHz, three other cores were Cortex-X4 and four should be A720. According to MediaTek, it is 35% quicker in single-core and 28% quicker in multi-core than the Dimensity 9300, whereas additionally being 40% extra power environment friendly.

It also incorporates MediaTek’s 8th generation NPU with additional capabilities to power on-device AI processing for LoRA training, video generation and expanded support for Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) development. The new chip is 80 % faster at running large language models (LLMs) prompts and has a 35 % power improvement over the previous generation, explains MediaTek.

In the realm of graphics, the Dimensity 9400 includes a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU boasting a 40 percent increase in ray tracing performance. The GPU also achieves a 41 percent improvement in peak performance and 44 percent power savings over the Dimensity 9300. MediaTek’s HyperEngine technology is also supported, providing an improved gaming experience.

The chipset also includes the Imagiq 1090 image processing engine, which brings enhancements like HDR video recording across the entire zoom range, better object tracking for moving subjects, and reduced power consumption when recording 4K60 fps videos, all while being more efficient than its predecessor.
