The Big Ones You Cannot Miss

1. Patriot (May 1) — The reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal after a decade is the headline event of the month. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the film follows Daniel, a famous YouTuber from Kerala attempting to expose a corrupt regional official, only to be framed and forced to go on the run. Fahadh Faasil plays the villain. With a 3-hour runtime and a stellar ensemble including Nayanthara and Kunchacko Boban, this is the year’s most anticipated Malayalam release.

2. Jana Nayagan (May 8) — Thalapathy Vijay’s massive political action drama arrives with huge expectations. The film follows a man who becomes a symbol of resistance after standing up against public injustice, with old enemies returning to settle scores as he navigates between reluctant leadership and protecting a young girl confronting her own fears. Bobby Deol and Gautham Vasudev Menon are among the supporting cast in this 3-hour-6-minute epic.

3. Karuppu (May 14) — Suriya steps into a superhero role in a film described as deeply rooted in social chaos. Set in a world where fear, injustice, and suffering have become everyday, a mysterious man emerges as an unlikely hero who gradually discovers his strength and purpose while confronting personal struggles. Trisha Krishnan co-stars. The film’s 2-hour-15-minute runtime promises a tightly crafted fantasy action experience.

4. Drishyam 3 (May 21) — The crown jewel of the month’s closing week. Following the events of the first two films, Georgekutty and his family once again take center stage as the emotional toll of the crime they have tried to hide continues to weigh heavily on them. Directed by Jeethu Joseph and running 2 hours 35 minutes, this is one of the most awaited sequels in Indian cinema history.

Other Films Worth Your Attention

Jet Lee (May 1) is a high-concept Telugu actioner set aboard a hijacked flight — a special agent, a billionaire fugitive, and a man with no memory locked in the same airspace.

Maa Inti Bangaram (May 15) features Samantha Ruth Prabhu as a seemingly traditional housewife with a violent secret past, protecting her family from looming danger.

Athiradi (May 14) brings Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph together in what sounds like a chaotic campus comedy-action film.

Dridam (May 8) is a tight investigation thriller about a young officer unravelling a mystery in a quiet hill station over a single intense week.

Varavu features Joju George and Murali Gopy in a hillside power drama where a man returns to reclaim what was taken from him.

Mollywood Times offers a satirical, self-aware comedy about a teenager from Kuttikkanam dreaming of becoming a film director — billing itself as a “hate letter” to cinema. And Kattalan, starring Antony Varghese Pepe from Marco fame, promises a rugged survival story in the vein of forest-based crime thrillers.
