Barcelona recently released an official statement announcing that their sporting director, Mateu Alemany, would be leaving the club. However, he now looks set to stay with the Spanish side, performing a U-turn on his decision.
Jordi Cruyff, however, will be leaving the club, as announced officially yesterday. Barcelona are in talks with their former player, Deco, to join the board as the replacement of Cruyff. Deco has almost accepted the proposal put forth by the club, and is now working to leave his agency in order to make the move.
Mateu Alemany to stay at Barcelona in spite of statement confirming departure
Mateu Alemany had talks with Aston Villa in the Premier League to take over as their sporting director once he left Barcelona. But there was reportedly no concrete agreement between the two.
His decision to stay back in Catalonia will see his role changed in order to accomodate Deco in the same structure. An official decision has not yet been taken, but is under consideration.
The club is making some big changes behind the scenes, and is expected to have a new direction going forward. They will be cutting costs by reshaping the hierarchy, and will also have to sell players from the first team in order to raise funds.
