Marvel Rivals Launches with 444K Concurrent Players on Steam

NetEase Games has launched Marvel Rivals, an exciting free-to-play, team-based PvP shooter available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. The early numbers from your fellow players bode well for the game’s debut, with a peak of 444,000 concurrent players on Steam in the first ten hours after launch. That milestone places it 25th on Steam’s all-time concurrent player peak leaderboard, and there’s plenty of room for improvement as more players join throughout the weekend.

The release introduces Season 0, called “Doom’s Rise,” which dives players into a thrilling narrative around Doctor Doom’s time experiments. These experiments trigger the Timestream Entanglement, kicking off a month-long season of action and exploration. Marvel Rivals features stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5’s global illumination with Lumen and environment destruction driven by Chaos. PC players can further enjoy DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS support, and NVIDIA users will have the benefit of a Game Ready driver tailored for maximum performance.

The visuals and performance on the console are similarly impressive. If you’re on a console, your PS5 and Xbox Series X both provide a Standard Mode with 60 FPS at 1440p, or a High Frame Rate Mode for 120 FPS at 1080. According to the leak, the PS5 Pro will use Pro Mode to achieve 60 FPS at 1800p, along with enhanced features such as Lumen Reflections. For its part, the Xbox Series S delivers a solid 60 FPS at 1080p.

The initial roster of 33 heroes includes familiar faces from Marvel thanks to characters like Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine. The cast is also enhanced by original characters Magik and Jeff the Land Shark. Eight maps are available for Quick Match and Competitive, with a Conquest map and Practice Range offering a break from the action. Fusing beloved superheroes, futuristic graphics, and exciting gameplay, Marvel Rivals is poised to become an instant favorite for both casual and competitive gamers.
