Marvel Rivals, NetEase’s free-to-play superhero shooter, keeps up the strong performance. It was already a success, with over 20 million players across all platforms in its launch month, but Season 1 has sent its popularity to a new level. SteamDB confirms that just hours ago, the game broke its previous concurrency record of 480K on Steam, hitting 644K players online at one time as of this morning.
Season 1 began just two days ago with the introduction of the Fantastic Four: Mister Fantastic (a Duelist), Human Torch (another Duelist), the Thing (a Vanguard), and Invisible Woman (Strategist). These Marvel characters, all of whom will appear in a forthcoming MCU film, are likely to boost the game’s player engagement even higher.

Also included is a new game mode known as Doom Match. In this mode, 8 to 12 players of different factions battle it out on one map, with all factions hostile to each other. Players accumulate points for killing enemies, and at the end of the game, the top 50% of players are classed as winners. Season 1 also introduced a seasonal event, Midnight Features, in which players can complete special activities to earn limited-time rewards such as exclusive galleries, costumes, sprays, unit nameplates, and more. Twitch users can earn exclusive Drop rewards like the Hela: Will of Galacta spray, nameplate, and costume beginning yesterday.
As had been expected, Season 1 will also feature a Battle Pass that, NetEase says, will offer more than double the season 0 pass worth of content. The Eternal Night Fall Luxury Battle Pass has 10 costumes, as well as other content such as sprays and emotes. While the Battle Pass is only 990 Lattice, players will earn 600 Lattice and 600 Units back when they finish it. If you had the old Battle Pass, the Luxury Battle Pass cannot expire and Tokens bought with Lattice will stay (except under certain conditions).
In its first month, Marvel Rivals has generated an estimated $54.5 million on Steam, $27.2 million on PlayStation 5, and $2.7 million on Xbox Series S|X, according to Game Look estimates. With its availability on the Epic Games Store and its own PC client, Game Look believes the game’s total earnings outside of China were about $100 million. When including the Chinese version’s earnings, the total is estimated to reach $136 million.
If the game maintains this momentum, it could become a franchise capable of generating over $1 billion annually, although sustaining that success in the live service market could prove challenging. Marvel Rivals is now available on NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud platform, and support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation tech for GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards is expected soon.
