What Happened in Episode 1?
Season 5 picks up in the years since the Goldilocks asteroid heist, with Happy Valley grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents and a base for new missions deeper into the solar system.
Mars is crowded, controlled, and increasingly unstable — there’s a governor, Peacekeepers, and growing frustration among residents. The episode ends with Alex finding a dead body, and investigators confirming it’s not suicide, making it Mars’ first ever murder.
What to Expect in All Mankind S5 Episode 2
The immediate reaction to the murder is the focal point of Episode 2, exploring how leadership and individual actions contribute to the colony’s growing instability. The tension between Martian citizens and Earth-based authorities continues to escalate.
Ed Baldwin is expected to take a more active leadership role, trying to unify the colony while balancing personal pressures — including hiding his Stage 3 cancer from his daughter. Meanwhile, Kelly faces consequences of limited funding and tensions with Aleida over the Goldilocks asteroid project.
In short — Mars is on the edge, and Episode 2 is the moment it starts to tip.
Why Season 5 Is a Big Deal
