Manchester United are undergoing a steady rebuilding phase under Erik Ten Hag. After a bumpy start to the season, the Dutchman has managed to take them in the right direction.
They are currently third in the Premier League, with 38 points and are also in contention for domestic and European silverware. Their most recent win in the Manchester derby against City helped prove a point that the team can hold up against strong opposition – including their arch rivals.
Manchester United plan to clear out squad this summer
Alongside bringing in players that align with the manager’s philosophy, United also need to clear out those that have been left out. And according to the Mirror, seven such players have been outlined – which could leave Old Trafford very soon.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny Van de Beek, Facundo Pellistri, Fred and Scott McTominay have all been linked with transfers away.
Fred and McTominay have still had game time this season, but Wan-Bissaka and Jones have been frozen out almost completely. Van de Beek has failed to make an impact since his transfer from Ajax in 2020, and has now been ruled out with a knee injury. Next summer, he could be moving out in an attempt to revive his career elsewhere.
Maguire remains one of the most expensive defenders to have been signed in the Premier League. But, his performances have failed to live up to the hype at Old Trafford. And after his inconsistencies, he is expected to leave in the summer. But, a suitable offer will have to come in for the sale to go through.
