Manchester United have no plans to sell Edinson Cavani despite Ronaldo return

Following Manchester United’s confirmation of the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the club, there has been speculation that Edinson Cavani could be sold by the end of the transfer window.

However, Manchester Evening News reports that the Red Devils have no plans to get rid of Cavani this summer. The Uruguayan signed a one-year extension at the end of the previous season, and his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. He is yet to make an appearance for United so far in the 21/22 campaign.

Cavani was signed as a free agent after his contract with PSG expired, and the player had a successful first season in England, scoring 17 goals in 39 games across all competitions for United. He was given an extended break following Copa America, and had to take time off for a personal issue as well. The striker is currently training with United regularly, and will possibly be in the squad for United’s game against Wolves.

Ronaldo was in talks with City, but was persuaded to join United by several parties, and will make the move for £20 million.

The arrival of Ronaldo means that Cavani will certainly fall behind in the pecking order unless Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finds a way to deploy both of them together. He could also hand over his number 7 shirt to Ronaldo, who made the kit his own after spending 6 years at the club and establishing himself as a legend despite being a youngster.
