Manchester City are prepared to sell Joao Cancelo this summer, with the player having returned from his loan spell at Bayern Munich. The defender’s loan spell had a buy option worth €70 million, but it the German giants did not trigger it.

He is back with Manchester City, and the club wanted to sell him before pre-season and sort out his future quickly. After falling out with Pep Guardiola during the January transfer window, he has no future with the treble winners and is now available on the market.

Arsenal had emerged as one of the possible teams to sign the full-back this summer, primarily due to the past relationship between Mikel Arteta and Cancelo. The two know each other well from when Arteta was the assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at City.

But now, Barcelona are in direct talks with Manchester City to sign Cancelo. The two clubs have decided on a loan deal, but are negotiating the structure of the deal for the right-back.

The sale of Ousmane Dembele to PSG has helped Barcelona pursue the defender, since they were previously held back due to FFP regulations.
