Man vs Bee Season 2 Is NOT Happening — Netflix Cancels Rowan Atkinson’s Comedy After One Season

If you’ve been holding out hope for Man vs Bee Season 2, it’s time to put that hope gently to rest. Netflix has officially confirmed there are no plans to bring back Rowan Atkinson’s delightfully chaotic comedy series — and honestly, the reasons are more complicated than you’d think.

Man vs Bee — Series Overview

What Was Man vs Bee About — And Why Did People Love It?

Released on Netflix in June 2022, Rowan Atkinson — best known for his iconic characters of Mr. Bean and Johnny English — played a housesitter who arrives at a luxurious mansion only to find his time there dedicated to hunting down a rogue bee. National Today

It’s exactly as wonderfully absurd as it sounds. Atkinson’s physical comedy genius translated perfectly to the format, and audiences lapped it up. Decider gave the series a “Stream it” rating, concluding that while you have to be in the right mood, “no one on the planet does slapstick better than Rowan Atkinson and this series shows off all the skills that have made his career so successful.”

The viewership numbers were genuinely impressive for a short-format comedy. Man vs. Bee spent two weeks in the global top 10, picking up 43.61 million hours in total — 18.21 million in its first week, growing 39% to 25.4 million in week two.

Perhaps most impressive was the YouTube views the initial trailer received, which clocked in at 15 million at time of publishing — making it one of the best-performing trailers in Netflix history, putting it ahead of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Elite, Enola Holmes, and Our Planet.

So Why No Man vs Bee Season 2?

The cancellation doesn’t necessarily come as a huge surprise given its short format and Netflix’s string of cancellations in the comedy genre. It still counts as a cancellation, given the show was never labelled a limited series in either press releases or within the Netflix application — which certainly left the door open for more, even if the show is nicely concluded by the end.

The series fits into a broader tradition of slapstick comedy that Atkinson has owned for decades — you can explore that legacy further through Wikipedia’s article on Rowan Atkinson, which traces his career from Not the Nine O’Clock News through Mr. Bean and beyond.
