Mamata All India Trinamool Congress: New “Football Player” Logo and New Name Unveiled Ahead of By-polls

Bengal’s political landscape witnessed a fresh twist this week as the Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the Trinamool Congress unveiled a new party logo, centred around a football player symbol, ahead of crucial bypolls scheduled for October 6.

Why the Change

The development follows an Election Commission of India interim order dated September 17, which froze both the “All India Trinamool Congress” name and the party’s traditional “Flowers and Grass” symbol amid an internal leadership dispute. With the original identity unavailable, the poll body assigned separate temporary identities to the two rival factions contesting for control of the party.

Mamata All India Trinamool Congress: The New Identity

The Mamata Banerjee faction has been allotted the interim name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” along with the football player as its symbol. The logo design places the footballer at the centre, with the party name written in white against a blue background, further incorporating saffron, white, and green tones.

The Electoral Stakes

Party workers and elected representatives have been directed to actively promote the new symbol across platforms, with just around two weeks remaining before polling day. The identity will face its first real test in the Rejinagar bypoll, where both rival factions remain in contention, while Nandigram has taken a different turn after Mamata’s nominee withdrew in favour of a Congress candidate.

The Bigger Picture

Interestingly, football has long held symbolic significance for the Trinamool Congress, with Mamata Banerjee previously launching sporting initiatives like Khela Hobe. Whether the new symbol resonates with voters could prove pivotal as Bengal heads toward a high-stakes electoral season, including expected municipal and panchayat polls later this year.
