About

The forthcoming period sports drama delves into the glory days of Indian football during the early 1950s and 60s under the guidance of coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Directed by Amit Sharma, Ajay portrays the role of the coach in the film. Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh are among the cast members. The film is jointly produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Akash Chawla.

Amit, while praising Ajay Devgn, remarked in a recent interview with news agency PTI, “Having a superstar onboard adds immense value to a film… When Ajay Devgn stepped onto the sets, he embodied the character of Syed Abdul Rahim without carrying any star persona. He arrived prepared with his lines and never once indulged in vanity. Instead, he focused on understanding and executing the director’s vision. He truly is a director’s actor.”

Amit discusses the comparisons drawn between Maidaan and Chak De.

Regarding comparisons between Maidaan and the 2007 blockbuster Chak De India, which depicted the journey of a former hockey player coaching the Indian women’s hockey team, Amit clarified, “While both films share the theme of achieving sports glory for India, the movie is based on a true story, whereas Chak De India was fictional. The underlying emotion of national pride through sports remains consistent. This sentiment is also echoed in ’83’.”
