Korea’s biggest action star just landed his biggest Hollywood role yet — and somehow, it’s not even his only project in this franchise. Ma Dong Seok is officially joining Netflix’s “Extraction 3.”
His agency Big Punch Entertainment confirmed on August 18 that following his lead role in “TYGO,” a spin-off film based on the “Extraction” universe, Ma Dong Seok will also join “Extraction 3,” continuing his global action career.

A Stacked Cast Goes Into Production
This isn’t a small ensemble by any measure. Netflix confirmed on August 17 that filming has officially begun on “Extraction 3,” with a cast that includes Ma Dong Seok, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Golshifteh Farahani, Pierce Brosnan, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry, and Sienna Agudong.
The creative team behind the franchise’s signature high-octane action returns too. Sam Hargrave, who directed the previous two installments, is back in the director’s chair, while Joe Russo and David Weil handle the screenplay.
As for story details, Netflix is playing things close to the chest. The film will follow Hemsworth’s character Tyler Rake as he takes on a new mission, though specific plot details and the roles of the newly announced cast members haven’t been revealed yet.
Ma Dong Seok’s Extraction Universe Takeover
This casting news comes on the heels of another major announcement. Ma Dong Seok was previously confirmed as the lead of Netflix’s “TYGO,” a spin-off where he plays a mercenary who grew up as a child soldier — a film also starring Lee Jin Uk and BLACKPINK’s Lisa.
Between two Extraction-universe projects, he’s clearly not slowing down. Ma Dong Seok is currently filming “The Roundup 5” simultaneously, continuing his reputation as one of the busiest — and most bankable — action stars working today.
His rise mirrors a broader trend of Korean actors crossing into major Hollywood franchises, a shift that traces back to the growing global reach of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), which has opened doors for Korean talent well beyond domestic cinema and television.
