Franchise Fever Continues: Luka Chuppi 2, Garam Masala 2, and Brahmastra 2 Step Into Writing Phase

In a cinematic landscape dominated by familiar narratives and beloved characters, the rise of film franchises shows no signs of slowing. The second half of 2025 already looks jam-packed with star-studded sequels such as Housefull 5, Sitaare Zameen Par, War 2, Son of Sardar 2, Jolly LLB 3, and De De Pyaar De 2.

Meanwhile, titles like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi 2, Queen 2, Kahaani 3, Hera Pheri 3, Dhoom 4, and Krrish 4 are inching their way through various stages of planning and execution. Now, three fresh additions — Luka Chuppi 2, Garam Masala 2, and Brahmastra 2 — have entered the writing phase, solidifying the industry’s current obsession with franchise-building.

Luka Chuppi 2: A Comedic Universe Gets a Supernatural Twist

After the commercial success of Luka Chuppi in 2019, producers Dinesh Vijan and director Laxman Uttekar are reuniting to craft its successor. Unlike its predecessor, which explored the comic chaos of a live-in relationship in a conservative town, the upcoming chapter promises an intriguing supernatural element while retaining the core of family-friendly humour.

“While the first one was a family comedy, the second one will continue the template of humour but with a supernatural twist. The writing is presently underway, and the film will be directed by one of Laxman Uttekar’s associates,” revealed a trusted source. Though casting has yet to be finalized, auditions are expected to begin during the latter half of 2026. Whether Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon will reprise their roles remains under wraps, but the buzz suggests the sequel is poised to expand the original’s universe in unexpected directions.

Garam Masala 2: High-Octane Laughter with Familiar Faces

Fans of chaotic bromance and outrageous pranks can rejoice, as Garam Masala 2 is also in development. Helmed by Abhishek Sharma, best known for satirical gems like Tere Bin Laden and patriotic thrillers like Parmanu, the sequel aims to revive the spirit of the 2005 comedy that starred Akshay Kumar and John Abraham.

“It’s a two-hero comedy, in the Garam Masala space. Sharma has an idea, and that’s being developed into a screenplay before being pitched to the two leads. Having said that, the two are definitely aware of something like Garam Masala being developed,” confirmed a source close to the project. Though the actors haven’t officially signed on, insiders hint that the stars are interested in returning, provided the script meets expectations. Sharma’s ability to balance humour with originality might just deliver the sequel fans never knew they needed.

Brahmastra 2: Mythology Meets Mystery With New Writers On Board

Ayan Mukerji’s ambitious astraverse continues to evolve. After Brahmastra Part One: Shiva dazzled audiences with its visual spectacle and spiritual storytelling, the director is now shaping the much-anticipated second installment. This time, he is roping in fresh creative voices to sharpen the narrative and elevate the dialogue.

“While Jio and Ayan are committed to make Brahmastra 2 in 2026, it’s still not clear who will play the part of Dev to Amrita (Deepika Padukone),” a source noted. Dialogue specialist Rajat Arora, whose credits include Once Upon A Time in Mumbai and Kick, is already working on the script, while a separate team refines the screenplay. Although the casting of Dev remains uncertain, the franchise’s loyal fanbase eagerly awaits each development.

In an interesting parallel, another insider revealed a different timeline for Mukerji’s priorities. “Work on Brahmastra will continue in tandem, but he will direct Dhoom 4 after War 2,” the source confirmed. With Ranbir Kapoor rumoured to lead the fourth Dhoom outing, Ayan’s schedule is packed with blockbuster commitments.

The Sequel Surge: Nostalgia Meets Reinvention

Bollywood’s franchise game isn’t merely about milking past glories — it’s also about reimagining known stories for a new era. Whether it’s comedic chaos (Garam Masala 2), fantasy-meets-reality (Luka Chuppi 2), or mythological world-building (Brahmastra 2), these sequels reflect the industry’s adaptive instincts and commercial acumen.

As development ramps up across multiple projects, viewers can expect a mixture of laughter, legacy, and larger-than-life storytelling to dominate the big screen over the next few years. Moreover, with sequels in every genre — from courtroom dramas to cosmic sagas — India’s film industry appears determined to construct its own cinematic multiverse, one hit franchise at a time.
