Lock Upp Is Back and It’s Coming to Netflix — India’s Most Controversial Reality Show Returns on June 27

Consider this your official warning to clear your schedule. Lock Upp, India’s most talked-about celebrity reality show, is making a highly anticipated comeback — and this time, it’s landing on Netflix. The premiere date is confirmed: June 27, 2026, and if the pre-launch buzz is anything to go by, this season is going to be unhinged in the best possible way.

Lock Upp — Everything You Need to Know

What Is Lock Upp?

Lock Upp is one of India’s most gripping and unapologetically dramatic reality formats — a show where some of the country’s most controversial celebrities are literally locked inside a prison-themed set and forced to fight it out. No filters, no escape, no diplomacy. Contestants — referred to as inmates — compete in brutal tasks to earn basic necessities, while simultaneously navigating alliances, confrontations, and the ever-present threat of elimination.

The format is raw, the personalities are polarising, and the drama is absolutely relentless. That combination is exactly why audiences couldn’t get enough of it the first time around.

The Pre-Launch Buzz Is Already Unreal

Before the official announcement even dropped, the makers pulled off one of the most creative promotional campaigns in recent Indian reality TV history. Giant live billboard installations featuring masked ‘qaidis’ in handcuffs appeared without warning across New Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, and other major cities — leaving citizens baffled, fascinated, and flooding social media with theories.

That kind of real-world guerrilla marketing doesn’t happen for shows people aren’t genuinely excited about. The internet took notice immediately, and the conversation hasn’t stopped since.

Why This Season Feels Different

Produced by Netflix in collaboration with Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, the new season promises a revamped format with higher stakes, more gruelling tasks, and — crucially — a bigger, more global platform. Netflix brings Lock Upp to an international audience for the first time, which means the scale and production ambition are both expected to be significantly elevated.

Incoming inmates will need to showcase raw personality, survival instincts, and the ability to win public favour — all while living under one roof with people they’d probably never choose to spend five minutes with in real life.
