Life Is a Long Quiet River Swapped Babies, Class War: Netflix Reboots a French Cult Comedy

Remember Claire from Lupin? Ludivine Sagnier is back on Netflix, this time in a comedy. The streamer has started filming a six-episode series based on Étienne Chatilliez’s 1988 satire, Life Is a Long Quiet River. The original sold around 4 million tickets in France, so the bar is high.

What’s the Story?

Two families in Arcachon, one wealthy and Catholic, the other working-class and left-leaning, learn that their teenagers were swapped at birth 14 years ago. The catch is that they already know and dislike each other. The Le Quesnoy father runs the superstore where the Groseille father works as a forklift driver and union member.

The new twist is a judge-ordered four-month “trial custody”, so each family has to win over the teens, Côme and Jordy. Think class struggle, but with a custody battle.

Life Is a Long Quiet River: Overview

Why It Matters?

Netflix’s French comedy slate usually favours original ideas over remakes, so this is a notable change of pace. Cornillac is a comedy veteran, and Ivanov and Tillier are both popular French comedy names. Sagnier brings international appeal on top of her Lupin fame.

Whether original director Chatilliez is involved is still unconfirmed. The story is clearly being reworked rather than copied, which could please curious newcomers or disappoint purists.

When Can You Watch It?

Nothing official yet. Filming runs through December 2026, so an early 2028 debut is a reasonable guess, but that is speculation, not confirmation. Waiting for a streaming premiere is a bit like following a big sports fixture: the buzz builds long before the whistle.
