Why LPCAMM2 Is a Big Deal

The old SO-DIMM standard hasn’t kept pace with what modern laptops demand. LPCAMM2 — the JEDEC-standardized evolution of Dell’s original CAMM design — fixes that in three key ways: it’s physically smaller, significantly faster, and crucially, still upgradeable.

The ThinkBook 2026’s memory runs at 8,533 MT/s, compared to just 5,600 MT/s on last year’s SO-DIMM-based ThinkBook 2025. That’s a 52% bandwidth jump. And unlike soldered LPDDR5X — which is irreplaceable without a soldering iron — LPCAMM2 modules can be swapped out like any standard stick.

The ThinkBook 16+ also supports Lenovo’s MagicBay modular accessory system, letting you magnetically attach webcams, LTE modules, or secondary displays via pogo pins above the screen. As TechnoSports has noted, this combination of upgradeability and modular design is exactly what power users have been asking for.

Currently a China-only launch, global availability hasn’t been confirmed yet — but expect that to change fast.
