Lee Junho Is Playing a Dragon, and This Rom-Com Just Got a Lot More Interesting

Some casting news makes you sit up instantly — and pairing a heartthrob with a thousand-year-old dragon role is exactly that kind of announcement.

The Drama Everyone’s Talking About

On July 23, tvN confirmed the main cast for its upcoming fantasy rom-com “Embassy for Foreign Monsters in Korea” (literal title), officially bringing together Lee Junho and Hong Hwa Yeon. The story centers on a human rookie diplomat who’s accidentally assigned to a secret embassy that manages monsters living in South Korea — only to discover its ambassador is actually a dragon in disguise.

Meet the Leads

Lee Junho plays Cha Yeon, a water-governing dragon and head of the world’s most mysterious embassy. Having existed on this land for over a thousand years, Cha Yeon is usually calm and composed, though capable of sudden bursts of intensity. The drama traces how his quiet, unchanging existence gets upended once a short-lived human unexpectedly enters his world.

Hong Hwa Yeon takes on the role of Go Mi Woo, a rookie diplomat and former Asian Games archery gold medalist who becomes the embassy’s only human member — a place technically off-limits to people altogether.

The Creative Team

The series will be helmed by director Bae Hyun Jin, known for “Hierarchy,” with the script penned by Shin Ha Eun, the writer behind the beloved series Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, a hit that similarly blended slow-burn romance with charm and warmth.
