Lee Joon Gi Returns After 3 Years With “kiDnap GAME” — A Pan-Asian Thriller Spanning 7 Cities

It’s been a long wait, but it’s finally happening — Lee Joon Gi is making his drama comeback after three years, and he’s not easing back in gently. His new project, “kiDnap GAME,” is a high-stakes international thriller that just confirmed its premiere date, and the scale of this production alone makes it one of the most ambitious K-dramas of the year.

When and What Is “kiDnap GAME”?

Channel A confirmed that “kiDnap GAME” will premiere in October, marking Lee Joon Gi’s first drama project in three years. The series is a joint production between teams from South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong — and the premise matches that international scope perfectly.

A Deadly Game Across Continents

The story centers on a coordinated kidnapping case unfolding simultaneously across seven cities — Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok, Naha, and Manila. Seven individuals are each handed different missions and thrown into a brutal survival game, racing to complete their tasks before time runs out in order to save their loved ones.

Lee Joon Gi plays Han Ki Joo, a retired genius doctor whose world collapses when his visually impaired daughter is kidnapped. As he gets pulled deeper into a sprawling conspiracy, he’s forced into increasingly desperate choices to bring her home safely.

Standing opposite him is Japanese star Sakaguchi Kentaro as Nīide Toshiro, an elite Tokyo detective determined to crack the case at any cost. Their dynamic is shaping up to be one of the drama’s biggest draws — a clash between a desperate father and a relentless investigator.

A Truly International Cast

What makes “kiDnap GAME” stand out even further is its genuinely pan-Asian ensemble. Alice Ko, known for Someday or One Day, plays Christina, a housewife and influencer thrust into the chaos after her husband is kidnapped. Filipino actor Joel Torre joins as Miguel, a taxi driver fighting to rescue his grandson, while Stanley Yau of Hong Kong group MIRROR rounds out the cast as an international lawyer named Andy.

With this level of cross-border collaboration and a premise built for nonstop tension, “kiDnap GAME” looks set to be one of the standout thrillers of the fall season.
