Lee Jong Suk Exits “Iseop’s Romance”: Why the K-Drama Star Dropped Out Before Filming Even Began

Just as anticipation was building around Lee Jong Suk’s next romantic lead role, the actor has officially stepped away from the project — leaving fans surprised and the production scrambling to regroup before cameras even roll.

Lee Jong Suk- The Exit

Why He Stepped Away

According to his agency, ACE Factory, Lee Jong Suk had been attached to the project since its earliest planning stages and was genuinely invested in bringing it to life. However, once the shooting schedule shifted from what was originally discussed, it clashed with commitments already on his calendar. After talking it through with the production team, both sides mutually decided he would step back from the role. The agency added that despite the exit, the project was prepared with real care, and they hope to see it succeed regardless.

What Is Iseop’s Romance About?

Adapted from a popular web novel, the drama follows Tae I Seop, a third-generation chaebol heir who’s brilliant at everything except romance, and Kang Min Gyeong, a sharp “secret weapon” employee at TK Group. Choi Yoon Ji remains attached as the female lead, meaning the search is now on for a new male lead before filming begins.

Chaebol-heir romance is a well-worn but reliably popular genre within Korean dramas, often blending workplace tension with slow-burn chemistry — a formula this project seems built to follow.

What This Means for Fans

Casting shakeups before production aren’t unusual in the K-drama world, but they do tend to reshuffle release timelines and fan anticipation. With Choi Yoon Ji still on board, the project isn’t derailed — just paused on finding its leading man. In the meantime, Lee Jong Suk remains active with his ongoing legal drama, keeping his fanbase engaged elsewhere.
