Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has accepted a €20 million per season proposal made by Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, and is set to join them on a three-year deal.

The player asked to leave the club, as confirmed by president Claudio Lotito.

A €40 million bid for the midfielder is expected to be enough to finally offload him. Milinkovic-Savic has been on the radar of several top European clubs over the last few years. However, no one was able to reach an agreement with Lazio to sign him all this while.

“Milinković Savić has asked me to leave the club, he only wants to leave. Ask him if he’s going to Saudi…”, Lotito told Tg24, according to Fabrizio Romano.

“Al Hilal? We’re waiting for formal and official documents. Deal is done when documents are signed. The proposal is below €50m”.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will join Kalidou Koulibaly and Ruben Neves as the two major European players to have signed for the club this summer. And now, the 28-year-old is set to become the latest player to make the move to the Gulf State on a huge contract.

The Serbian spent an eight-year spell with the Biancocelesti, where he made 341 appearances and won the 18/19 Coppa Italia, alongside two Supercoppa Italia titles.

The midfielder’s contract with Lazio expires next summer, which has put them under pressure to sell him. If they cannot agree to a new contract, he will be able to walk out for free in 2024. As a result, the decision has been made to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for free.

Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski is being heavily rumoured as the replacement, with the veteran expected to change clubs this summer.
