Lanterns Season 1 Episode 3 Release Date: When “OutKast” Drops Around the World

Two intergalactic cops, one small-town murder mystery, and a growing web of Green Lantern lore — “Lanterns” has quickly become one of HBO’s most talked-about new shows. With episode 2 wrapping up major revelations, fans everywhere are asking exactly when episode 3 lands. Here’s the full breakdown.

Lanterns Episode 3: Overview

Global Release Times

“Lanterns” follows a strict weekly release pattern, dropping new episodes every Sunday in the Americas. For international audiences, that translates to a Monday release due to time zone differences. In the US and Canada, episode 3 premieres Sunday, August 30 at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT on HBO and HBO Max, with Canadian viewers also able to stream it on Crave at the same time.

For fans in India, the episode becomes available Monday, August 31 around 6:30 AM IST on JioHotstar, part of the platform’s expanded content partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery. UK viewers can catch it Monday at 2 AM BST via HBO Max, Sky Atlantic, and NOW TV.

What “OutKast” Is About

Episode 3 continues to deepen the show’s central mystery in Rushville, Nebraska, where veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and rookie recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) are investigating a string of unexplained deaths. The previous episode, “Trust Fall,” pulled the pair further into the town’s strange happenings while introducing a major name from Green Lantern lore: Thaal Sinestro.

In a tense confrontation at a maximum-security extraterrestrial prison, Sinestro — a former Green Lantern who betrayed the Corps and was responsible for a Guardian’s death — warns Hal that a Manhunter may be active on Earth. He stops short of revealing the Manhunter’s identity, its location, or whether it’s connected to the murders the two Lanterns are investigating, leaving plenty of tension heading into episode 3.

About the Series

Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with Mundy also serving as showrunner, “Lanterns” reimagines the Green Lantern mythology as an Earth-based crime drama rather than a straightforward space epic. The series premiered August 16, 2026, and has earned a strong critical reception, alongside a cast that includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Laura Linney, and Ulrich Thomsen.

Five more episodes remain after “OutKast,” with the season building toward the finale on October 4.
