Lamine Yamal has become the youngest player ever to debut for Barcelona at the age of 15 years, 9 months and 16 days. The youngster replaced Gavi in the 86th minute of Barca’s 4-0 win over Real Betis.
The record was previously held by Vicente Martínez, who was 16 years and 280 days when he set the record all the way back in 1941. Yamal has now broken the record, and is expected to have a bright future with the first team.
Lamine Yamal becomes youngest Barcelona debutant of all-time
The only players to have made their first appearance with Barcelona at a younger age played in the Catalonian championship, which is now discontinued.
Lamine Yamal also had the chance to become the youngest goalscorer of all-time for the Catalonian side. He had a great opportunity shortly after coming off the bench, but was denied by Rui Silva. In spite of his brief cameo, he showed signs of quality and could feature again in the first team, especially given that there will be little to play for in the league once Barcelona win the title.
The 15-year-old became the youngest to be named in the matchday squad in their last game against Atletico Madrid. And now that he has finally made his debut for the seniors, a new contract could follow once he turns 16.
