Kylian Mbappé Breaks 71-Year Real Madrid Record with 40 Goals in Stunning Debut Season

In what some critics prematurely dubbed a “bad season,” Kylian Mbappé has delivered one of the most electrifying debut campaigns in Real Madrid history. The 26-year-old forward scored his 28th La Liga goal of the season in a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Real Mallorca, rewriting a chapter of Spanish football history that had stood since 1954.

That strike not only helped Madrid delay Barcelona’s title celebrations—it also saw Mbappé break Alfredo Di Stéfano’s 71-year record for the most goals in a debut La Liga season for Real Madrid. The legendary Di Stéfano had scored 27 in the 1953–54 season. Mbappé now leads the La Liga scoring charts and has tallied 40 goals in all competitions, the most ever by a Real Madrid player in their first season.

Mbappé’s Record-Breaking Numbers:

A Goal Worthy of the Record

In the 53rd minute against Mallorca, Mbappé took on four defenders, controlled the ball with finesse, and finished with a blistering strike past the goalkeeper—an instant highlight and a testament to his world-class quality. His goal, paired with a last-gasp winner by Jacobo Ramón, kept Los Blancos mathematically alive in the title race, though Barcelona remains poised to clinch La Liga.

Consistency at the Elite Level

Mbappé’s goal-scoring spree this season is no outlier. His last five seasons read like a legend in the making:

• 2020–21: 42 goals
• 2021–22: 39 goals
• 2022–23: 41 goals
• 2023–24: 44 goals
• 2024–25 (ongoing): 40 goals (and counting)

French superstar silences critics with 40 goals and a La Liga record-breaking campaign for Los Blancos.

Despite no major silverware in his first season at Madrid, Mbappé’s individual brilliance has silenced the doubters and reaffirmed his place among football’s elite. With the Club World Cup and two La Liga matches remaining, the Frenchman is on pace to potentially surpass his career-best tally of 44 goals.

Mbappé’s magical debut campaign is not just a bright spot in Madrid’s season—it’s a statement of intent for what’s to come. With a new coach set to take over and a potential squad overhaul on the horizon, Real Madrid looks ready to rally around their new talisman for a return to glory in 2025.
