The second Comic Con edition of Kolkata Comic Con wrapped up this weekend at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre, and with over 30,000 fans pouring through the doors across two days, it’s safe to say the City of Joy just delivered one of India’s most memorable pop culture weekends of 2026.

Why This Edition Felt Different

Timed perfectly ahead of Poila Boishakh — the Bengali New Year — Comic Con this year didn’t feel like an imported event dropped into a city. It felt like an extension of Kolkata’s own cultural DNA. The same city that celebrates Durga Puja with world-class artistry and queues around the block for its iconic Book Fair embraced comic books, anime, and cosplay with that same infectious passion.

Day 2 featured a live interactive storytelling session with artists Charbak Dipta, Tadam Gyadu, Savio Mascarenhas, and Gaurav Basu — where real-time audience prompts shaped narratives on the spot. Very Kolkata. Very brilliant.

Cosplay Stole the Show

Cosplay is always a Comic Con centrepiece, but Kolkata’s cosplayers brought something extra. Characters ranging from Noelle Silva and Captain Jack Sparrow to Senjumaru Shutara from Bleach walked the floor with jaw-dropping detail.

Arindam Paul, dressed as Fatalis Beta Armor from Monster Hunter, won the Kolkata Qualifier for the Indian Championship of Cosplay 2026, taking home prizes worth ₹50,000. Even bigger, Karan Prakash and Karan Desai won the World Cosplay Summit India Qualifiers as the Chaos Crusaders and will now represent India at the WCS finals in Nagoya, Japan.

The Convention Floor Was Pure Chaos (In the Best Way)

The NODWIN Gaming Zone brought VR and simulator experiences, while Maruti Suzuki Arena’s fan zone kept reflexes sharp. Anime fans explored SPY x Family and Suzume themed setups. Movie zones for Supergirl, Mortal Kombat II, and The Mummy added blockbuster energy. A fulldome immersive experience, Logitech racing simulators, and a Just Dance booth rounded it all out.

Brazilian comic artist Rogê Antônio drew massive queues, while the evening closed with a powerful live performance by rapper-poet EPR — exactly the kind of act Kolkata’s literary soul would appreciate.
