Cricket royalty meets opportunity as Virat Kohli’s nephew Aaryaveer and Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir find homes at the Delhi Premier League 2025 auction, carrying forward legendary family traditions.

When Legends Create Legends

The Delhi Premier League 2025 auction on July 6 became a celebration of cricket’s most cherished legacy – the passing of talent through generations. In a moment that captured hearts across the cricket fraternity, two of India’s greatest batting icons saw their family members step into the spotlight.

The surname power was on full display as Aaryaveer Kohli and Aaryavir Sehwag transformed from promising youngsters to professional cricketers with franchise deals worth their potential.

DPL 2025 Auction Results: Future Stars Land Big Deals

Player	Age	Franchise	Price	Specialty
Aaryaveer Kohli	15 years	South Delhi Superstarz	₹1 lakh	Leg-spinner
Aaryavir Sehwag	17 years	Central Delhi Kings	₹8 lakh	Top-order batsman
Vedant Sehwag	15 years	Unsold	–	Off-spinner

The Kohli Connection Continues

Aaryaveer Kohli’s journey mirrors his uncle’s path in fascinating ways. The 15-year-old leg-spinner trains under Rajkumar Sharma – the same mentor who shaped Virat Kohli’s early career at West Delhi Cricket Academy. Even more poignantly, Rajkumar was present at the auction, witnessing another chapter of the legacy he helped create.

Following Uncle’s Footsteps:

Same coach (Rajkumar Sharma)
Same academy (West Delhi Cricket Academy)
Same determination to excel
Now, professional cricket opportunity

While Aaryaveer hasn’t yet represented Delhi at the senior level, his inclusion in the DPL provides the perfect platform to develop under pressure. Playing for South Delhi Superstarz alongside Ayush Badoni, who led the franchise to last season’s final, offers invaluable mentorship opportunities.

Sehwag’s Son Sparks Bidding Frenzy

Aaryavir Sehwag proved that talent speaks louder than bloodlines when he sparked a mini bidding war before Central Delhi Kings secured him for ₹8 lakh. The 17-year-old’s credentials speak for themselves – a stunning 297 in the Cooch Behar Trophy that announced his arrival on the domestic scene.

Aaryavir’s Rising Stock:

Delhi Under-19 representative
Match-winning 297 vs Meghalaya
Top-order batsman like his father
₹8 lakh price tag shows franchise confidence

However, there was disappointment for younger brother Vedant Sehwag, the off-spinner who went unsold despite his Under-16 credentials. Cricket’s unpredictable nature reminded everyone that talent alone doesn’t guarantee immediate success.

Father’s Pride, League’s Gain

Virender Sehwag’s presence at the auction added emotional weight to the proceedings. The former India opener expressed his excitement about the tournament’s growing stature: “It’s a great opportunity for players to shine on a big stage. With selectors and fans watching closely – not just from India, but internationally as well.”

His words proved prophetic as both DPL’s success stories like Priyansh Arya (₹3.80 crore IPL deal with PBKS) and Digvesh Rathi (LSG contract) demonstrate the league’s pathway to bigger stages.

The Pressure and Promise

In India, carrying a legendary surname brings both opportunity and pressure. While these young talents benefit from name recognition, they’ll ultimately be judged on performance. The DPL platform offers them the perfect environment to prove their worth.

What This Means:

Next generation ready to carry forward legacies
DPL establishing itself as premier talent pipeline
Indian domestic cricket depth on full display
Family traditions meeting professional opportunities

With the tournament expanding to eight teams and IPL scouts watching closely, both Aaryaveer and Aaryavir have golden opportunities to write their own chapters in cricket history.

The auction might have ended, but the real story begins when these young talents step onto the field, carrying not just their family names, but the hopes of an entire cricket-loving nation.
