Villarreal have signed Watford right-back Kiko Femenia on a three-year deal until June 2025. The Spaniard returns to his home country after five years of playing for the Hornets. He joined them from Alaves in 2017, and is now back in La Liga.

The right-back follows a series of departures for Watford upon their relegation. Players such as Adam Masina to Udinese, Moussa Sissoko to Nantes and Cucho Hernandez to MLS side Columbus Crew have already happened. Josh King, Andre Gray and Ben Foster have also left the team as free agents.

The move has been made official by the Yellow Submarine on their social media accounts.

But the player announced his departure from Vicarage Road a couple of days ago. “It is not easy to say goodbye to a club that has given me so much.” he wrote on Instagram.

“Since the very first day I have felt part of this amazing family.

“For this reason, I would like to thank all my teammates and staff.

“Nor do I forget you, Hornets. You are an incredible encouragement to me and my family.

“Today our paths are parting, but I will always carry you in my heart.

“Thanks for every single day, sincerely yours, Kiko Femenia.”

Femenia will be the replacement for Serge Aurier, who left the team upon the expiry of his contract.
