Karakkam Brings Chills and Comedy to Streaming: Here’s When You Can Watch

Missed Malayalam cinema’s quirkiest horror experiment in theaters? You’re in luck. Karakkam, starring Sreenath Bhasi and Femina George, is making its way to streaming, and it’s bringing its unusual mix of ghosts, guilt, and comedy along with it. After releasing in theaters on May 28, 2026, the musical horror comedy is set to begin streaming on SonyLIV from July 3, 2026. The makers describe it as Malayalam cinema’s one-of-a-kind musical horror film, where chills meet rhythm and chaos meets comedy, a fitting tagline for a film that genuinely blends genres most filmmakers keep separate.

The story follows two reckless friends, Dhanush and Khaja, who, after a drunken New Year’s Eve brawl, stumble into a church cemetery and uproot five brass crosses from separate graves. Unaware they’ve desecrated sacred ground, the duo unknowingly awakens five restless spirits who rise to haunt them relentlessly. As they take refuge in a local lodge, the hauntings spiral into a series of encounters that are as terrifying as they are unintentionally comic. Pushed to their limits, Dhanush and Khaja must find a way to undo their mistake before it’s too late, a redemption arc set against a backdrop similar to other entries in the broader horror comedy genre that blends scares with laughs.

Directed by Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian, the film also stars Praveen TJ, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Shaun Romy, Sidharth Bharathan, Bijukuttan, Midhutty, Manikandan R. Achari, and Jean Paul Lal. Music is composed by Sam CS, with Bablu Aju behind the camera. Despite its inventive premise, the film received mixed-to-negative reviews during its theatrical run, but streaming often gives such genre experiments a second life with the right audience.
