Kamal Haasan’s Next Film: Ulaganayagan Set for a Raw, No-Frills Action Avatar Under SU Arun Kumar

Kamal Haasan is gearing up for arguably his most rugged role yet. After his powerful turn in Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, the veteran star is teaming up with Veera Dheera Sooran director SU Arun Kumar for a gritty, grounded action drama — and early buzz suggests this one’s going to feel refreshingly real.

Kamal Haasan: A Fresh, Rooted Look

Raaj Kamal Films International confirmed the collaboration by sharing a striking photo of Kamal sporting salt-and-pepper hair and a long beard, captioned simply, “Here I come.” But reports suggest the on-screen look will actually be short-haired — a deliberate move away from glossy stardom.

What makes this project stand out is its commitment to authenticity. No CGI de-aging. No dance numbers. Just a raw, Madurai-shot action saga with a middle-aged actress reportedly cast as co-lead — though the makers haven’t confirmed casting yet.

What Happened to KH237?

Interestingly, Kamal was earlier attached to an action film with directorial duo Anbariv, tentatively titled KH237, penned by Syam Pushkaran with music by Jakes Bejoy. That project hasn’t seen fresh updates in a while, fueling speculation that the SU Arun Kumar film may now be his priority.

A Packed Lineup Ahead

This isn’t the only big-ticket project on Kamal Haasan’s plate. He’s set to reunite with Rajinikanth in KHxRK, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, and also has Kalki 2 lined up alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. With a career spanning decades, the actor — often called Ulaganayagan, continues redefining what longevity in cinema looks like. Read more about his journey on Wikipedia. pinkvilla
