Julian Nagelsmann offers brief response to Chelsea rumours as he pulls out of the race

Julian Nagelsmann has ended negotiations with Chelsea to become their new head coach. The German was reportedly the favourite to take over, after Graham Potter was sacked by the board.

But after several conversations with the hierarchy, he has decided that it won’t be possible for him to succeed at Chelsea. The former Bayern Munich boss wanted to wait until the summer to take over, which is probably why Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard until the end of the season. But now, he has decided that this is not the project for him to take up.

Chelsea were also in talks with Luis Enrique, but the former Spain manager has also been unable to convince the club with his vision. Now, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany are in the shortlist.

Talks with the Argentine are progressing well, and he is reportedly in the advanced stages of taking up the job. But, it hasn’t been fully finalised yet. Chelsea are building long-term project with young players, and Pochettino could be a great candidate to lead them for the coming years.
