Previously, it was reported by TRAI that Jio is the fastest-growing telecom company ever gaining a whopping 6.2 million subscribers for the month of Feb 2020. Now, as per Jio’s own evaluation, Jio has made a wireless gross addition of 15.1 million during Q1 2020 despite COVID related restrictions across the country.

They even went on to claim that the data traffic increased 30% YoY to 14.2 exabytes, which is insane, and experienced no issues in difficult situations as well. Like, in West Bengal, during the Amphan cyclone in May, most of the networks including Airtel, Idea-Vodafone and even BSNL experienced a lot of trouble in keeping their network strong, Reliance Jio was the only one to keep strong all throughout which has helped to gain more and more subscribers over the time.

The future remains 5G-proof with Jio’s Make in India 5G initiative

The monthly churn rate for wireless subscribers was only 0.46% during the Q1 2020. Jio says that customer engagement increased during the quarter with national lockdown driving average wireless data consumption per user per month to 12.1 GB and average voice consumption to 756 minutes per user per month. Jio was also successful to increase the Average Revenue Per User or ARPU during the quarter to ₹ 140.3 per subscriber per month.

As said in the AGM this month, Mukesh Ambani plans to implement home-grown 5G services in India as fast as in 2021 itself. So, naturally using Make in India program to be the first in the country to bring 5G will make their network even more superior and robust, helping to gain more customers in the near future.
