IPL 2023

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most expensive sporting leagues in the world. IPL 2023 is just around the corner with its scheduled start being in late March or early April. The mini-auction for this season’s tournament has already been held and the teams are now roaring to go.

However, until now, the viewing experience of IPL wasn’t that great as Star Sports held the broadcasting rights of the tournament and broadcasted the match in just 1080p video resolution.

Sports 18, owned by Jio has now bought the broadcasting rights of IPL 2023. Reportedly, the tournament will now be live-streamed for FREE on Jio Cinema in 4k video resolution, just like the free streaming of the recently concluded FIFA World Cup 2022. They are targeting a reach of 500 million audiences as the tournament will be broadcasted for free and no subscription will be needed, unlike previous years.

Jio spends a few 100 crores to set up a new technical team for broadcasting IPL 2023 in 4K video resolution seamlessly

During the first few days of the FIFA World Cup 2022, there were many technical glitches and the viewers were unhappy with the live-streaming experience. So this time, Jio has spent a few 100 crores to set up a new technical team, as per a report by Exchange4media. All this has been done so that the massive fanbase of IPL gets the best viewing experience that too in 4k video resolution.

Jio is also planning to broadcast the tournament in 16 different languages like English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, etc. This is being planned to give the viewers a more engaging experience. According to a report by Crictracker, they are also experimenting with the introduction of a new feature which will allow the user to check the scoreboard and any other things whenever they want without depending upon the broadcaster to show the info.
