Ji Sung Gets Emotional Over A Surprise Birthday Thrown By His “Fake” Family In The Apartment Job

Some on-screen families feel more real than fiction — and that’s exactly the magic happening in JTBC’s The Apartment Job. New stills show Ji Sung’s character getting a heartfelt surprise birthday party from his makeshift “family,” and the emotion is spilling off the screen.

What’s Happening In The Story

The drama follows former Oasis Gang boss Park Hae Kang (Ji Sung), who runs for president of an apartment complex’s resident council to access its hidden reserve fund — only to end up teaming with fellow residents to uncover deep corruption instead.

The Birthday Surprise

New stills reveal Kang Ha Ri (Ha Yun Kyung) and the rest of Park Hae Kang’s “intermittent family” going all out for his birthday — colorful decorations, party poppers, and a candle-lit cake, complete with a festive “Happy Birthday” headband. The Lizard (Kim Won Hae), Kim Gyeong Nam, Jang Je Gil (Hwang Hee), Big Guy, and Kim Gyeong Buk all join in, proving just how tight-knit this unlikely family has become.

Interestingly, the production team revealed that Ji Sung began tearing up the moment filming started, impressing the entire cast with the depth of his emotional performance.

What’s Next?

With Park Hae Kang now working for Lee Choong Won (Park Byung Eun) in pursuit of the missing fortune, fans are eager to see how this decision tests the bonds this makeshift family has built. Found-family narratives like this continue to resonate deeply within Korean drama storytelling, where unconventional relationships often carry as much emotional weight as blood ties.
