What Is Enigma Variations About?
The series is adapted from the novel of the same name by Call Me By Your Name author André Aciman, who will also serve as executive producer. It follows Paul, a man whose intense, complex desires — for men and women alike — follow him across different phases of his life, from boyhood summers in southern Italy to adult encounters across New York. Think sweeping emotional drama, layered identity, and raw human longing.
It’s the kind of story that demands a nuanced lead — which makes White’s reported departure all the more significant. He was originally confirmed for the role back in January 2025 but reportedly exited the project by January 2026. Netflix has yet to officially confirm the change, and a replacement cast search is said to be underway.
