Japan Can’t Stop Streaming Rosé’s “APT.” and ILLIT’s “Magnetic,” and the RIAJ Just Made It Official

Three hundred million streams is a big number. Two K-pop hits have now reached it in Japan, and the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has certified both as triple platinum.

October’s RIAJ Streaming Certifications

How RIAJ Streaming Certification Works?

The RIAJ introduced its streaming certification system in 2020, adding it to the existing awards for physical album shipments and digital downloads, according to Soompi’s report. The tiers are simple:

So a triple platinum means 300 million streams, three times the platinum bar.

The Triple Platinum Winners

“APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars is the pop-crossover hit that needs no introduction, and its Japan numbers back that up. The BLACKPINK member’s collaboration with Bruno Mars has clearly connected with listeners there.

“Magnetic” by ILLIT is even more notable, since it’s the group’s debut track. Reaching 300 million streams in Japan shows how quickly the group built a loyal audience, and the song has stayed in listeners’ rotation.

The Platinum Club

Three more songs crossed the 100 million mark:

• aespa’s “Spicy”, a fan favorite that keeps finding new listeners.
• BABYMONSTER’s “SHEESH”, a strong result for a younger group.
• Shaun’s “Way Back Home” (Sam Feldt Edit), featuring Conor Maynard. Shaun is a singer-songwriter, and this is a nice reminder that the list isn’t only girl groups.

Why Japan Matters for K-Pop?

Japan is one of the world’s largest music markets, and strong streaming numbers there often reflect lasting popularity rather than a one-week spike. These certifications show that K-pop’s reach in Japan goes well beyond album sales.
