What Makes Ithiri Neram Worth Watching

Directed by debutant Prasanth Vijay, this mature romantic drama unfolds entirely over one night in Thiruvananthapuram. College sweethearts Anish and Anjana unexpectedly reunite after years of separation, confronting unresolved feelings, regrets, and life changes during their journey together.

The film’s understated approach and realistic portrayal set it apart from typical Malayalam romances. The real highlight is the acting and cinematography by the leads—the story is light and honestly told, extremely realistic and earnest.

Critical Reception and Performances

Roshan Mathew and Zarin Shihab share great chemistry and deliver mature, convincing performances, while supporting actors Nandhu and Anand Manmadhan also shine. The film earned a respectable 6.9 rating on IMDb, with viewers praising its honest emotional depth.

The screenplay doesn’t rush—it lets emotions develop slowly, creating space for nuanced conversations about love, time, and the choices we make. The city where they spend the night becomes a character itself, with the screenplay introducing a light-hearted comedic track around the interval that blends smoothly with the romance.

Technical Excellence Behind the Romance

The film’s technical team deserves equal credit for crafting this intimate experience. Rakesh Dharan’s cinematography captures Thiruvananthapuram’s nocturnal beauty, while Basil CJ’s music and lyrics enhance the emotional resonance. Francies Louis’s editing maintains the film’s gentle, contemplative pace without dragging.

Why It Deserves a Second Chance

Although the film received positive reviews from those who watched it, it failed to attract large theatrical audiences. But OTT platforms often give such intimate, character-driven stories the second life they deserve—where viewers can appreciate their quiet brilliance without box office pressures.

What’s Next for the Cast

Roshan Mathew continues his impressive run in Malayalam cinema with Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies, directed by Adhvaith Nayar. Touted as Malayalam’s first WWE-inspired action-comedy, it co-stars Arjun Ashokan, Vishak Nair, and Lakshmi Menon.
