Isco plays final Real Madrid game against Real Betis to end 9 year career

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco will be leaving the club at the end of his contract, as confirmed by manager Carlo Ancelotti following their game against Real Betis.

“Isco’s career with Real Madrid ends today. And it’s been a great career,” Ancelotti said.

“He surely could have done more but he’s been important. I wish him the best”.

Interestingly, the Spaniard’s first and last games for Real Madrid were both against Real Betis, under Carlo Ancelotti. He has been an important player for them over the last nine years, and is now moving on to a different challenge in the next chapter of his career.

The player has won four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, and has won 18 trophies in total over a nine-year spell. He has scored 53 goals and provided 56 assists during his career with them in 356 games.

It was believed that Real Betis were leading the race to sign the midfielder upon the expiry of his contract. He would’ve become the highest-paid player in their squad after arriving for a free transfer. But, with Betis failing to qualify for the Champions League, it might not be possible for them to sign him in the summer.

His next destination is still up in the air, and we will get to know more about his future as the summer transfer window approaches.
