Is Modern Family on Netflix? Here’s Everything You Need to Know

If you’ve been searching for Modern Family on Netflix lately, you’re not alone. This Emmy-sweeping sitcom is one of the most searched shows on streaming platforms — and for good reason. But here’s the hard truth: Modern Family is no longer available on Netflix globally. Let’s break it all down so you’re not left clicking around in frustration.

What Happened to Modern Family on Netflix?

Modern Family was a surprise addition to Netflix across over 30 countries — including the UK, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Latin America — starting around 2018–2020. Fans were thrilled. But the joy was short-lived.

According to What’s on Netflix, all seasons of Modern Family left Netflix internationally on January 1, 2022, heading exclusively to Disney+. It was a shock removal — especially since Netflix had only just added Season 9 in some regions months prior.

US fans note: Modern Family was never on Netflix in the United States. It has always been a Hulu exclusive stateside.

Why Was Modern Family Removed from Netflix?

The removal wasn’t random. Disney, which owns 20th Television (the show’s distributor), has been pulling its licensed content from third-party platforms to strengthen Disney+. The same wave took out other fan favorites like Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy, How I Met Your Mother, and New Girl — all departing Netflix on January 1, 2022.

It’s part of a larger streaming war trend where studios reclaim their content to boost their own platforms. We’ve covered similar moves in our OTT platform analysis pieces on Technosports.
