The Two Big Changes
Chennai Super Kings have handed the job to former India pacer Zaheer Khan. He takes over from Stephen Fleming, who spent 18 years with the franchise before moving on to coach England’s Test side.
Delhi Capitals have named Sourav Ganguly as head coach, replacing Hemang Badani. DC finished sixth in IPL 2026 and are still chasing their first title.
Stability Elsewhere
The other eight franchises are backing their existing coaches. Abhishek Nayar remains in charge at KKR after being promoted to head coach for 2026, when the team finished seventh. Kumar Sangakkara continues at Rajasthan Royals as head coach and director of cricket.
What It Means for IPL 2027
Next season will be a special one, as the IPL completes 20 years. It will also be a mini-auction year, expected in the second week of December, so coaches will mostly work with their existing squads and fill specific gaps. That puts extra pressure on the new bosses at CSK and DC to fix their teams quickly.
