IPL 2022: What are the changes in bio-bubble rules made by BCCI?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made some changes in the bio-bubble life and this time it is stricter. The Indian board has introduced fines and repeated bubble breaches could lead to the ban of a player from IPL for the season. BCCI has tightened the rules for the family members as well.

Last year, the IPL league had to be suspended after there were bio-bubble breaches in three teams. This time, BCCI has introduced strict rules to avoid such mistakes.

“The COVID-19 pandemic poses a serious threat to the health of individuals and the cooperation, commitment and adherence by each Person Subject To These Operational Rules to the measure put in place to provide a safe environment is of paramount importance,”– as per reports

IPL Bio-bubble rules: 2022

  • One-day mandatory quarantine for player, match official/ franchise official in case to a rule break.
  • Players/ match officials won’t be paid for the number of matches missed.
  • Second-time offenders will have one-match suspension.
  • Third-time offenders, the player/official will be removed from the IPL bio-bubble.
  • They will be banned from IPL 2022 with no replacement. 
  • For missing the Covid testFirst-time offenders will be warned. For the second time, they will be charged Rs 75,000 per offence and won’t be allowed to enter the stadium or training facility.

  • The family member will have to quarantine for 7 days, for the first time.
  • The associated player will also have to serve a mandatory 7-day re-quarantine period and won’t be paid for the matches he missed.
  • The family member will be removed from IPL’s bio-bubble permanently, for the second time.

Franchise and Bio-bubble

  • The franchise has to field 12 players minimum otherwise, they will be referred to the IPL technical committee.
  • If it’s possible, the IPL TC will reschedule the match ot the franchise will forfeit the match if missed.
  • The franchise has to pay a huge amount if the player leaves without informing the Health and Safety officials.
  • The franchise will have to pay a fine on pro-rata basis which would have been paid to the player for the matches missed.
