The BCCI has considered Star India to be their broadcast partner for the 15th edition of the IPL. Star has requested BCCI to shift the date to one day before, March 26. Star wants to start IPL 2022 to start one day before so that there’s a double-header on Sunday. BCCI is yet to make a decision next week and the IPL schedule is going to release by then.
BCCI had ticked 27th March as the start day as per reports. However, BCCI may consider the request of Star and IPL may commence from a day before. BCCI revealed that the decision regarding this matter will be taken soon and the schedule will be released by next week.
As per reports, a senior BCCI official told “I cannot reveal the details of the negotiation that is taking place between the BCCI and the broadcaster. But yes, we are still in the discussion to finalise the dates. It will start in the last week of March. The start is still under discussion,”
How will the start of IPL one day before help the broadcasters?
A shift in the IPL date on March 26 is a win-win situation for both BCCI and Star. If the match starts on Saturday, three matches should be done by the first weekend. Indian players will also get some rest after their series against Sri Lanka finishes by March 16.
“We understand that a Saturday start helps the broadcaster to kick start the league with a bang with three matches in the first weekend. A Sunday inauguration would not permit that. The BCCI and the broadcasters were in discussion over this and eventually, it could be on March 26,”– Reported by a franchise to Cricbuzz
Star requested the commentators to be available between March 19 to June 7. The commentators have to be in a bio-bubble after a five-day quarantine. Star has asked them to join by March 19 as the IPL 2022 is going to start from March 26-27.
Star India stated in a mail, “At the onset, wanted to check with you on your availability for IPL 2022 on the world feed broadcast. So request you to please provide your availability not only for the tournament but probably say minus 8-10 days from the start date and plus five days from the end date to be safe, so effectively from 19th March 2022 to say June 7, 2022,”
