The retained players for IPL 2021 have been finally unraveled. Popular names like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been retained in their respective franchises. While CSK skipper MS Dhoni made it in slab 2, a lot of players got attention with a huge amount of money.
MS Dhoni’s sacrifice for for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021
We all are aware that Mahindra Singh Dhoni is the oldest player of CSK. The man himself along with CSK’s management decided to give slab 1 to Ravindra Jadeja that is a pay cheque of Rs.16 crores. Dhoni has been retained for 12 crores (slab 2). Last year, Jadeja’s price was 7 crores, he’s getting paid more than twice next year. MS Dhoni has accepted the cut in his salary by 3 crores.
Legendary players not being retained by the franchises
IPL Franchises this time didn’t get swayed by emotions for retaining legendary players. They decided to invest their money in youth who can prove to be a better asset for the team and its future. Star players like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Shikhar Dhawan and Faf Du Plessis have been released by their respective franchises despite of giving wonderful performances.
Faf du Plesses scored 633 runs, Dwayne Bravo has alsways been the key player of Chennai Super Kings and the wins of the team. Shikhar Dhawan has also been the lead scorer of Delhi Capitals And Chris Gayle has been a lead scorer for Punjab Kings. All the players have been ignored by their respective teams considering their age was 35+and above.
Performance is the king
IPL franchises have decided to let go their favourite legendary players and retain the young talents. Players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rashid Khan will be in the auction. As per reports KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are the choice for skipper. Their price can even go above Rs 20 crores.
Franchises believe that retention is unjust
Most of the franchises were very disappointed since they have now let their favourites go in another team whom they have groomed for years.
IPL 2022 allowed the existing franchises to retain a maximum of 3 Indian players and 2 overseas players.

- Abdul Samad from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
- Umran Malik from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
- Arshdeep Singh from Punjab Kings (PBKS)
All the four players got retained for Rs 4 crores each, getting the highest paycheck of their lives.
