The Australian players have set a white-ball squad for the Pakistan tour ahead of IPL. The franchises of IPL are upset with Cricket Australia since they aren’t even allowing players like Pat Cummins (KKR), David Warner (DC), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), Glenn Maxwell (RCB) who are not part of the squad. They will be able to join after 6th April. The IPL franchises are planning to raise the issue with BCCI regarding this matter.
“This is completely uncalled for. We could have lived with it if these cricketers were part of the Australian squad. But when they are not, what is the point of not allowing them to play in IPL. Just imagine they will be released on 6th April – which means they will complete Covid protocols by 11th or 12th April & will surely miss 3-4 games. We will speak to BCCI about the issue” said a representative of one of the most affected franchises.
On Monday, Cricket Australia announced that players having a contract with IPL deals irrespective of being a part of the Pakistan tour squad will not be able to play IPL till April 6. Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Jason Behrendorff, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis who will be playing for the Pakistan series have to miss IPL till 10th to 11th April.
The Pakistan series includes three ODIs and a one-off T20, which will be played in Rawalpindi from March 29.
