Indian Premier League 2020 ended just a few days ago and Mumbai Indians became the champion for the record 5th times this year. But BCCI and IP Governing Council have already started to plan about the next year’s IPL.

They are considering adding two more teams in IPL to make this a 10 team league for some extra excitement. There are some more rules that may be added next year.

A BCCI official told, “If the league is expanded, few tweaks in the rules and format will surely take place but it is too early to discuss at this stage.”

4 big rules that can change in IPL:

  • Playing Format:

The playing format may be changed if the number of teams is increased. There will be two different groups. All the teams of the same group will play each other.

  • Increasing of Foreign Players:

The number of foreign players may be increased from 4 to 5. It will make the league more competitive with a perfect mixture of foreigners and Indian players.

  • Power Surge:

The rule is going to be introduced first in the Australian Big Bash League. IPL wants to introduce the rule in IPL as well. Power Surge is just splitting the power play. After the implementation of this rule, the mandatory power play will be reduced to the first 4 overs rather than the first 6. The batting team can use the ‘Power Surge’ of 2 overs from any time after the 10th over.

  • X-Factor Player:

Another rule that is going to be used in BBL this year, may also end up being implemented in IPL. The teams will have the ability to change strategy at the 10 over mark of the first innings and an X-Factor player can be substituted in place of another player.

These new rule changes may increase the excitement of IPL much more next year.
