According to recent reports, the iPad Air 6 may appear as a pair of tablets together with the iPad mini 7 and an upgraded iPad Pro at some point between now and June 2024. Particularly intriguing is a suggestion that the upcoming iPad Air 6 would be available in two variations. It doesn’t seem to be a simple issue of one model supporting cellular connectivity and the other only Wi-Fi. Actually, the paper mentions four models in total, including two sets of Wi-Fi/cellular models.
Our first hunch is that Apple might provide two sizes, which has happened before. While the MacBook Air laptop recently received a 15-inch variant to complement the current 13-inch edition, the iPad Pro already comes in two sizes (11 inches and 12.9 inches). It’s likely that these two versions’ specifications go beyond just size, such as the fact that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a mini-LED display while the 11-inch one does not.
Whatever happens, it’s likely that the next iPad Air 6 will come with a new chipset since the current 2022 model still employs the outdated Apple M1 chip.
The new silicon is probably going to be either the existing Apple M2 processor seen in the most recent iPad Pro, MacBook Air M2, and 13-inch MacBook Pro, or it might be the next Apple M3 chip that we anticipate seeing next year.
For the other iPads mentioned in the study, no additional significant changes are anticipated. It is anticipated that the basic iPad and iPad mini would only receive chipset improvements.
Both devices underwent significant redesigns over the previous couple of years. The same is probably true for the upcoming iPad Pro, however sources for 9to5Mac and prior leaks both indicate that it will be accompanied with a new aluminum Magic Keyboard.
