Intel Core i9-11900K CPU becomes the fastest single-threaded chip on Passmark, performs 7% faster than the fastest AMD Ryzen 5000 ‘Zen 3’

11th Gen Intel Core desktop processors (code-named "Rocket Lake-S") will deliver inceased performance and speeds. They will launch in the first quarter of 2021. (Credit: Intel Corporation)

Intel Core i9-11900K rocket Lake processor appeared in the Passmark CPU benchmark database and scored the highest single-threaded performance among all desktop processors. This chip is based on a new architecture and features clock frequencies over the 5 GHz barrier, allowing it to post a few huge gains over its predecessors.

A huge CPU architectural upgrade over the last 5 years is here, Intel Core i9-11900K’s multiple Cypress Cove core. The Rocket Lake line still seems to rely on a 14nm process node, but the architecture makes a new beginning for Intel to catch up with AMD’s rapid progress with their Zen core architecture.

Specifications of Intel Core i9-11900K 8 Core and 16 Thread Rocket Lake Desktop CPU

The Intel Core i9-11900K is going to be a flagship 11th Gen Rocket Lake Desktop CPU. The chip has 8 cores and 16 threads, which will result in an L3 cache of 16MB and an L2 cache of 4MB. The base frequency of the CPU is 3.5 GHz, but it is able to feature a maximum boost clock of 5.2 GHz while the all-core boost frequency will be limited to 4.8 GHz.

The Thermal Velocity Boost will also be featured which will deliver a 100 MHz jump in the max clock frequency. The Core i9-11900K will feature lower cores and threads compared to the Intel Core i9-10900K. This is might be for the backporting of Cypress Cove on the refined 14nm process node.

The Passmark’s listing shows that the Intel Core i9-11900K scores 3764 points in the single-thread and 28082 points in multi-core tests. The Core i9-11900k is able to offer 7% faster multi-threaded performance than AMD’s flagship Ryzen 9 5950X CPU. It is also 19% faster than its predecessor, Core i9-10900K. The result proves that the Core i9-11900K leads the chart of Passmark single-core performance. Meanwhile, Ryzen 9 5950X is much faster in multi-threaded performance.

There is no possibility to see the Rocket Lake CPUs in retails till late March 2021. Intel is also preparing for its 12th Gen ‘Alder Lake’ Desktop CPU lineup out by the Q3 2021 or 2H 2021.
