PlayStation and developer Insomniac Games have yet to announce an official release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, nor have they specified a time frame other than “2023.” This is expected to change soon if the game does indeed release in 2023, and according to a new report, it does indeed seem like Insomniac Games and PlayStation are planning a release in 2023, to be more specific, in September. The report comes from reporter Jason Schreier, and there are several reasons why you should believe it.
Schreier is not only a Bloomberg reporter but also arguably the industry’s most prominent and trustworthy source. He has delivered reliable report after reliable report over the years, with only a few misses on his CV. In short, this information could not have come from a more reliable source.
You can also take this information seriously because there have been numerous rumors, reports, and leaks all pointing to Insomniac Games releasing the game in September. The most notable of these came directly from Tony Todd, the actor who plays Venom in the game, who revealed that it would be released in September.
And also the first game, PlayStation and Insomniac Games had a lot of success with this release window, so using it again isn’t surprising
If there’s one reason to doubt this information, it’s that September is still five to six months away. Given the length of typical video game marketing campaigns, you’d think that Insomniac Games might have already revealed the game by now if it was set to release in September. This is reasonable, but it ignores the fact that PlayStation has been steadily shortening the marketing campaigns of many of its biggest games since the PS4 generation began, but especially since the PS5 generation began.
