Inside The Captive Reality: Why Jannat Zubair Stepped In For Shivangi Joshi

Reality TV has a way of turning friendships into headlines — and Jannat Zubair just proved she’s not one to stay silent when a friend gets caught in the crossfire. In an exclusive chat, the actress opened up about why she felt compelled to guide Shivangi Joshi through the noise of Lock Upp 2, and dropped a clear answer on whether Bigg Boss 20 is in her future.

The Friend Who Warned Her First

Jannat explained that contestants inside a “captive reality” show like Lock Upp are completely cut off from the outside world. They live there 24 hours a day but only a sliver of that footage — an hour or two — ever airs. That gap between what happens and what’s broadcast, she said, is exactly why she wanted to prepare Shivangi for how the outside world might perceive her.

Reality TV’s Editing Trap

Jannat’s insight taps into something bigger than one show — the gap between lived experience and edited narrative is a well-known feature of the reality television format globally, a genre whose structure and audience psychology are explored in depth on Wikipedia. For contestants, that gap can turn a passing comment into a viral controversy overnight.

Will Jannat Zubair Ever Do Bigg Boss?

Despite being no stranger to reality formats, Jannat made her stance on Bigg Boss 20 crystal clear — a firm “I don’t think so,” reserving her respect for the show as the genre’s original, while keeping her own future plans elsewhere.
