India’s Table Tennis Campaign at Asian Games 2026 Ends in Round of 16 Heartbreak — Mixed Doubles Bronze the Lone Silver Lining

India’s table tennis journey wrapped up with just one medal — a bronze in mixed doubles — after both remaining singles hopefuls, Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah, were shown the door in the Round of 16. It’s a quieter outing than 2022, when Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee brought home a doubles bronze from Hangzhou, but the mixed doubles pairing of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale kept India on the podium this time, reaching the semi-finals before settling for bronze.

Ghorpade, ranked World No. 76, gave home favourite and World No. 3 Miwa Harimoto a proper contest — even clawing back to win the third game — before eventually falling 1-4. Shah, meanwhile, couldn’t find his rhythm against China’s World No. 8 Lin Shidong, pushing him close in the fourth game (10-10) before bowing out 0-4.
